The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture (MOFA), in collaboration with the Fisheries Commission with support from Environmental Justice Foundation (EJF) under the Norwegian Sustainable Oceans Project, has commenced a series of stakeholder review workshops on the Draft Fisheries and Aquaculture Regulations developed under the Fisheries and Aquaculture Act, 2025 (Act 1146).
The maiden workshop, held on 14th and 15th July 2026 at Akroma Plaza Hotel in Takoradi, brought together fisher associations, enforcement agencies, state institutions, civil society organisations, and other key stakeholders from the Western Region.
The workshop served as an important platform for participants to examine the draft regulations, identify potential implementation challenges, and provide technical inputs aimed at strengthening Ghana’s fisheries governance framework. Discussions centred on key areas such as fisheries management, aquaculture development, licensing and registration, monitoring, control and surveillance, conservation measures, post-harvest management, fish quality assurance, and enforcement mechanisms.
These regional consultations highlight the Ministry’s commitment to an inclusive and participatory process in developing regulations that are practical, responsive, and effective in ensuring the sustainable management and development of Ghana’s fisheries and aquaculture sector.
Together, we are building a resilient and sustainable future for Ghana’s fisheries.
